HP Brings Together Autonomy and HadoopTo Help Customers Find Information They Need
Last year, Hewlett-Packard purchased Autonomy for $10 billion, enduring a number of arrows from its competitor Oracle. What a difference a year is!
Since the purchase HP saw the leaving of Autonomy CEO Mike Lynch, which was not on friendly terms. It also saw the departure of the whole original management team and 20 percent of the staff. Now, the question is whether or not HP will see its move compensate or become another WebOS-style fiasco, marking the company needs to stay with hardware.
HP’s Autonomy wing recently released a series of cloud-based products, centered on the Autonomy Intelligent Data Operating Layer 10 (IDOL10). The goal is to bring new order and anaylsis to Hadoop, which is what the company’s Converged Cloud is based upon, as well as to Web clickstream information. These advances are supposed to produce deeper perceptibility into reams of both structured and unstructured information.
IDOL along with Vertica (data warehouse software that HP acquired) can be entrenched in Hadoop nodes. From here, users are able to use IDOL’s more than 500 functions – clustering, categorization and hyperlinking – to find all kinds of sources for both structured and unstructured information to find deeper trends and meanings.
Sources are also in charge of the gamut from instructed audio files and Twitter streams to structured information like services issues, inventory records and purchase history. IDOL has 400 connectors, which allows business to use and obtain external information.
Autonomy Vice President Matt Malden said the benefits to this approach is IDOL can carry out in-place analysis of information on the Hadoop data storage instead of needing to copy information from one place to another place to have it examined.
Autonomy also recently released an extension for the digital market platform known as Autonomy Optimost Clickstream Analytics, which is created to give marketers the following things:
- Conversions
- Customer engagement
- Single view visits
The platform allows marketers to attain access to granular clickstream data, which they can look at themselves. Users can blend the data received with the unstructured statistics and third party material for deeper discernments into customer buying patterns and interests.
Malden said the idea for Optimost Analytics is to give average users the tools necessary to cut up information to find the useful bits of information. While the system has a UI of its own, it can use the third-party visualization technology like Tableau and QlikView.

did you know? HSG is one of the foremost training companies in the United States
Our courses focus on two areas: the most current and critical object-oriented and component based tools, technologies and languages; and the fundamentals of effective development methodology. Our programs are designed to deliver technology essentials while improving development staff productivity.
An experienced trainer and faculty member will identify the client's individual training requirements, then adapt and tailor the course appropriately. Our custom training solutions reduce time, risk and cost while keeping development teams motivated. The Hartmann Software Group's faculty consists of veteran software engineers, some of whom currently teach at several Colorado Universities. Our faculty's wealth of knowledge combined with their continued real world consulting experience enables us to produce more effective training programs to ensure our clients receive the highest quality and most relevant instruction available. Instruction is available at client locations or at various training facilities located in the metropolitan Denver area.
