How to Improve Your Computer Dating Profile
Not getting any hits on your dating profile? It doesn’t mean you’re a loser. There are literally millions of computer dating profiles out there and dozens of free and paid websites to find a date. A dating profile is kind of like a resume for your personal life. To succeed, you have to learn a few tricks to stand out.
Tips to Improve Your Computer Dating Profile
1. Make a Good First Impression
Filling out an online dating profile can be a daunting task. When you’re faced with all that blank space to write about yourself, it gets intimidating. The best way to improve your computer dating odds is to make a good first impression. Start with a good opening line such as a favorite quote or a personal motto you can easy build on.
2. Paint a Picture
When writing your first paragraph, it should give the reader a clear image of you. Avoid using adjectives such as “funny” and “quiet” to describe yourself. Instead, be specific. For example, instead of telling someone you’re an avid reader, let them know you can usually be found curled up with the latest Dean Koontz novel and a cup of herbal tea.
3. Give Them the Present
Your dating profile isn’t mean to be an autobiography, it’s supposed to be a brief but detailed snapshot of who you are as a person. Don’t start out with, “ I was born on a small farm…went to college on a football scholarship…etc.” Let people know what you’re up to right now so they can get a good idea of what it would be like to date the person you are today.
4. Be Mysterious
One of the biggest mistakes people make on their dating profile is giving away too much. Don’t go on and on about just one topic. When you offer a bit of information on multiple topics it will entice readers to send you their questions and spark a meaningful conversation.
5. Be Confident
Starting a sentence with, “My friends think…” when talking about your good qualities will make you sound unsure of yourself and that’s a turn-off. The trick to attracting more attention is showing your natural confidence without being cocky. Tell them the one thing you’re good at but don’t brag.
6. Show a Bit of Vulnerability
A dating profile that is too “perfect” may be a turn-off to others. Though you don’t want to overdue it and bare your soul, slipping in something slightly embarrassing about yourself will make you look much more relatable.
7. Use Good Grammar
You’d be surprised how many computer dating profiles are riddled with grammatical and spelling errors. Not to mention those annoying text acronyms. “Cant w8 2 meet u sxy grl” is not attractive to anyone over the age of 16. If English wasn’t your best subject, that’s okay. Just run your profile through a spell checker first before you put it up!
8. Leave Out the Physical
Even if you mean it in a very innocent way, anything like, “I’m good with my hands” or “I give great massages” is going to send the wrong message. Leave out any mention of your physical abilities or potential dates will think a physical relationship is all you’re after!
9. Give the Perfect Parting Line
When you’re finishing up your profile, keep your ending comment upbeat and positive. Add another interesting tidbit about yourself or your goals for your life. Finishing with “message me” will come off too aggressive but “hope to chat with you soon” is friendly and inviting.
10. Picture Perfect
They say that looks aren’t everything but they certainly help. When putting your dating profile together, think about the message you want to send.
Ladies- According to statistics, the most attractive type of photo to men is the “MySpace” shot from up in the air complete with either a genuine smile or the flirty-face. A little bit of cleavage goes a long way but don’t overdue it or you’ll come off easy, vain or desperate.
Guys- If you’ve got a great body, pose without a shirt. If your body isn’t where you want the focus, pose with a pet cat, dog or bird. Just don’t mix those two shots together. A shirtless pose with an animal just looks wrong.
Both- Doing something interesting like playing the guitar or enjoying a game of beach volleyball is a clear winner every time. It’s a great way to be conversation-worthy instead of just relying on your looks alone. Also, post no more than 5 pictures of yourself or you’ll run the risk of looking vain.
When putting together a dating profile, don’t do it when you’re in a rush. Spend some real time with it. After all, you want to attract somebody who will be a good match for you and skimping on or worse, faking details, will work against you every time.
Computer dating is a popular way to find a date and make real connections. Once you learn how to use it to your advantage, you can find that healthy, long-lasting relationship you’ve been looking for.
