I’ll get straight to the point. Why should companies invest more in management training? Here are 10 simple reasons.
1) An employee’s relationship with his or her direct manager is the most important single factor in employee engagement.
2) Engaged employees are happier and more productive. Disengaged employees are frustrated and more disruptive.
3) Because there’s no widely agreed-on skillset for management (good managers come in all shapes and sizes), there’s an assumption everyone knows how to do it. Facebook has recently released a collection of C++ software modules that it uses to run the popular website. With Facebook releasing Folly (the name it designated for the collection), more of the internal programs could become open source since they need different parts of the collection.
Jordan DeLong, a Facebook software engineer, said one concerning holdup to releasing additional work is that any open source project had to cut away from the dependencies on non-released internal collection code.
Attempting to create an intelligent entry about Linux for such a wide ranging audience is a bit like trying to compare a presentation on quantum mechanics for physicists while being readable by somebody with a junior high school education.
